Review: The Wrath and the Dawn

My rating.
Review.
“I love you, a thousand times over. And I will never apologize for it.”
Let's go through some main points of this book, shall we?

A strong and fearless heroine? check.
Shahrzad is, no doubt, one of the best heroines. She is fierce, strong, and just have one thing in her mind: to avenge her best friend's death. She is one of my most favorite characters from the book.

An arrogant but caring hero with secrets? check.
And here comes Khalid! This thing of falling in love with a mysterious guy never gets old, and I fall every time for such characters! Just mention of his name melts my heart!

Beautiful writing? check.
Just read below quotes for this one. The writing is everything in this book.

Love-triangle? *shudders* check.
I don't know why there has to be a love triangle in almost every book! I understand how much this love-triangle affected the story, but I just can't go through will all this same stuff again.

Slow burn romance? check.
Since I am a sucker for slow burn romance, this book was perfect for me in that aspect. Those moments between Shahrzad and Khalid during the second half book were so emotional and beautiful that for a moment I couldn't think of anything else.

And I still ask myself why I didn't loved this book like everyone else.

I would be lying if I said that I didn't like this book. I finished it in one day, and that says something. I truly enjoyed the book, but the thing which was missing in the book was connection to the main characters. I admire Shahrzad's character for her boldness, but at the same time I never felt connected to her.And Khalid was so beautiful and broken that I couldn't help but fall in love with him. But when they were together? There was no chemistry between them. The only saving grace was the writing. No matter what, I bet you can't stay detached from the story when there are dialogues and quotes like these:

“This dangerous girl. This captivating beauty.
This destroyer of worlds and creator of wonder.”

She swiveled her neck to meet his gaze. “Then never speak of sending me away again. I am not yours to do with as you will.”
Khalid’s features smoothed knowingly. “How right you are. You are not mine.” He dropped his palm from the door. “I am yours.”

“If I’m a plague, then you should keep your distance, unless you plan on being destroyed.” The weapons still in her grasp, she shoved against his chest.
“No.” His hands dropped to her waist. “Destroy me.”
^ Yes, the entire book is like that. And I loved every word of it. There was something so beautiful about the writing that it was like I was taken to this entirely different world with those beautiful and luscious prose.

It's not as if I hate this book, but after seeing so much hype and getting recommended by almost all my friends, I just felt....underwhelmed. But I am still going to read the second book, because....that cliffhanger!!! Overall it was still an enjoyable read.

    1. I did it myself :) I used to make background textures and brushes(those flowers) when I was in school and now it's coming to use :P I have my own website for my textures, it's the first icon on right side of blog! :)

  2. Aww, I'm a little disappointed by your score, but it seems like it's still worth reading.
I don't read much YA so the love triangles trop doesn't bother me as much as it should. We shall see! I look forward to reading the beautiful writing.
