My rating

My review.
“I’m more happy than not. Don’t forget me.”
No, I won't.
Nothing could have prepared me for this intense and emotional story. I don't know why but I expected it to be a light read despite of the fact that everything about this book says that it's a sad story. Except for the title, which misleading because this book is more SAD than HAPPY! I started reading the book at midnight and finished it at early morning, and it's needless that I was crying my eyes out at the end. This has to be the most sad story I've read this year. My rating would have been different if I had wrote the review just after finishing the book;I might have rated more, but now that I think about it, my is rating around 3.5 stars but rounding off to 4 only because of the unique plot and the writing. I loved Adam Silvera's writing and his way of storytelling and I am looking forward to read more books by him.

The book started at a slow pace, and it wasn't until after the first half that I realized why there is so much hype about the book and why everyone loves it so much. The story is unlike anything I've read, I love how unique and different the concept is. And even though it is also shelved as sci-fi which is also the main reason for some very shocking plot twists, it seemed more contemporary to me.

The thing that made this book so painful and raw was that it was too real. Even though this is fiction, it felt like I was reading about someone real and not just any imaginary character. There was nothing that felt unrealistic; it shows that you don't always get what you want, and as much as I know that it is real, sometimes I wanted to scream at the characters to do the wrong thing so that everything wouldn't be as sad as it was. But nothings goes the way it's supposed it, and as much as I hated that, I also know that life isn't a fairy tale and doesn't always end happily.

"I realize I'm crying a little, too. I remember. Sometimes pain is so unmanageable that the idea of spending another day with it seems impossible. Other times pain acts as a compass to help you through the messier tunnels of growing up. But pain can only help you find happiness if you remember it."

I loved Aaron's character. He is very kind and is my most favorite character from the book, but the tragic things which happens to him breaks my heart. All the characters are flawed, they are different in their own way but I still didn't like the way they behaved most of the time, and don't even get me started on the things Aaron's friends do!

“He rubs his face and his eyes squint; a tear escapes. “You didn’t have to take my side, Stretch.” I kind of, sort of, definitely always will.
There's also romance in the book, but not what you'd call cute. But there were few scenes in the beginning which were definitely funny. First half is more lighter and mostly revolves around relationship between Aaron and his friends, and even though I found the beginning slow, it also seemed important for the next part of the book. So it is not completely sad and depressing, there are also some light moments in the book.

Second half of the book was a complete shocker and I would never have expected what happened after that. I mean I knew that it was also sci-fi, but still I just couldn't believe how that Leteo procedure-which I had almost forgotten by then- changed the whole story! Then there was love-triangle. Or wait, love-square? But it didn't really matter because there were many other issues which were more important and. ! And that ending, why it had to be like that?!! I mean, wasn't it enough with all those shocking sci-fi twists ? I just couldn't stop crying over the ending, and even though it was kind of inspiring and uplifting, I just couldn't forget how depressing it was.

I loved the book, and even though I wouldn't reread it ( there's no way I am going through those sad scenes again), I am sure I will always remember this book and its characters.

This book is dark and emotional, but it's definitely worth reading! There is nothing I didn't like in this book.. Even though it was a sad book, I am kind of, sort of, glad that I read it! Ending my review with my most favorite and positive quote from the book:
"I will do my best to find the sun in the darkness because my life isn't one sad ending- it's a series of endless happy beginnings."
